The last time I sewed cocoa brown was in the early 2000s or before then. For my Minerva Brand Ambassador project I chose

This is the first chocolate brown top I sewed this month.

Minerva Core Range Melange Sweater Knit Stretch Fabric Brown was my choice before I knew more about this colour being on trend this Winter.

I’ve seen this colour every where in the shops and on the cool young ones I know.

The fabric is one of Minerva’s core fabrics. I chose this colour because it was the darkest colour in the range on offer.

This fabric has some stretch as it’s poly spandex. Just enough spandex to keep the fabric in check!

Now I have to say, this is a layer of colour. I will be wearing thermal tops under the layer to keep me warm.

The knit is fine and the threads seem to be black and brown. That suited my needs.

The colour doesn’t run but the fabric does fray. There were little chocolate bits on my carpet as I sewed this fabric even after overlocking the seams edges separately.

I used a slim zigzag stitch for the seams. Tricot tape is the only notion I used on this top. Tricot tape reinforces the shoulder seams without adding bulk.

Kwik Sew 3740 is fabulous, if you can find it in your pattern stash.

Make sure you use sewing threads that you can see against this fabric. Why? It makes unpicking a whole lot easier. This knit allows the stitching to embed into it.

Kwik Sew is also one I’ve used before. I sewed the neckline on the wrong way. The under collar is slimmer than the upper collar so you don’t see the seam line.

My unpicking skills are great when I use sewing thread that you can see when you need to unpick it.
