My skirt block is back for a Winter basic. This time I’ve created a classic black skirt. It’s lined so there’s no tussle with tights under the skirt. You know what I mean.

Winter basics are absolutely worth sewing. Yes they’re boring and not exciting. What I appreciate is they’re there when I need them on hand.

Winter also brings out the clothes I’ve sewn in previous seasons. The top is last year’s merino Lee-Ann’s Top from Silhouette Patterns. While this pattern is not available, this style is a favourite to keep the cold off my neck.

Skirt details

The skirt itself is a simple make: two fabrics from the stash, a zipper I already had, and a block I trust. Nothing flash. Definitely hard‑wearing. Always ready.

I’ve removed some of the back skirt width so there’s no back bustle of fabric I don’t need. If you do sway back adjustments, you know what I’m talking about.

Winter is still here, and so are the pieces that make getting dressed feel effortless.
