The Eliana dress is a semi fitted dress with gathered neckline and waist. The flowy skirt has inseam pockets and hits just above the knee. View A has long raglan sleeves gathered at the wrist, a front opening and an elastic waistband. View B is sleeveless, has a back opening and ties at the waist with a grosgrain ribbon.
I first made this pattern twice in 2015 and I still go back to it when I have a wonderful flowy fabric. Minerva has created new prints and they’re fun to work with so you can get an idea about how to use them. This Minerva exclusive print is called Popcorn Prowl.
I may have made other flowy dresses but I my thoughts always go back to this very first pattern Pauline Alice pattern I tested 7 years ago.
Do I wear white dress often? The last time I wore a white dress was for my wedding. I do consider this dress a ‘white dress’ but this popcorn prowl print has got so much colour so I feel very confident wearing this print. It is so much fun!
The fabric is very light so I wore a beige half slip under the dress.
An easy was to finish the sleeve cuffs is to use fold over elastic. I used fold over elastic with a zigzag stitch and it was very simple to finish off the sleeve cuffs.
I’ve used 3-thread overlocking on the seam edges to finish them. This fabric is quite easy to manoeuvre as you sew with it so you should have a play with the fabric before you work with it if this is a new fabric for you.
I received this fabric last week and as soon as it arrived, I knew exactly how I wanted to wear it and exactly what pattern I wanted to use. Don’t you love it when that happens? This fabric suits this pattern by Pauline Alice and as I said, it’s one of her earliest patterns she created.
What I love about this view is the raglan sleeve. They’re long enough so you can wear them to your elbows. But they’re long enough to wear to keep the sun off your arms if you’re staying out of the sun for the afternoon while holidaying at the beach.
This print has both a holiday vibe to it and also a fun casual vibe to it. I felt that this fabric would make a neat sleeveless top to wear under a dark suit or jacket. My plan is to use the remnant of this fabric and make a top I can wear under another layer, just for a nice spot of colour.
Because this print uses such bold colours, it’s a good print to pair with lots of wardrobe basics.
Pauline Alice patterns have a tailored yet casual feel to them so I tend to keep these patterns for that very special fabric. These new prints exclusive to Minerva are perfect to use for this Eliana and most of the tops I love to wear from Pauline Alice.
I’ve paired a signature pattern with an exclusive Minerva print. Go the Popcorn Prowl print. I hope you can find a signature pattern you love to wear for your version of Popcorn Prowl print.
