A big bow

Simplicity 8871 was a new to me pattern and perfect for this crepe in gunmetal green. The tie feature is a bow feature that I know is Esme’s fav feature.

When I made and wore this dress, I really really liked it a lot.
It could be the colour or the fabric drape for the style.
Have you made Simplicity 8871 yet?

If you’re my height there are a few changes to make so it suits your height and curves.
Firstly, check the waist and make sure it’s at your waist point.
Then check where the bust points are and change the bust dart to point to where your bust is right now.
These two changes are ones I always check.

What I love with this pattern is the centre back seam. This gives you the ability to shape the back to match your shape. I did a slight change to curve more at the back waist and definitely added 3cm to the back hem but zeroed in at the side seams.

Another change was to make the side seams space for the waist tie smaller. Not by much but enough to balance it correctly for my height and lack of waist definition.
I added more length to the sleeve so that it’s ‘bracelet’ length.

No zipper or closures needed. There are great pockets for this dress. Three-thread overlocking is all I needed to finish the seams.

Those sparkly buttons at the neckline make this dress work for evening events while holding down the neckline facing.

I really love the changes I made and I’ll reveal the final dress soon.

Yes. I made a second dress from my fabric stash because the shape of this dress works!
