This is my day to night version of the Poppy dress. I used Morrocaine crepe Luxury Lagoon fabric I used 2 years ago.
The fabric was a panel fabric remnant and the Poppy dress are perfect together.
Poppy is designed to give you a very achievable and wearable experience. Your sewing skills can be beginner and you’ll still come out with a really pretty Summer dress. Maybe this is the dress to make for the holidays ahead?
I used size G. There are optional back waist darts that I did sew and then decided they didn’t suit this print.

For someone as short as I am, the hem width was perfect. It didn’t weigh me down as midi and maxi length skirts can do for my size.
On my version, I didn’t add pockets either because that’ more of a day feature for me. If the fabric had been more medium weight, that might have worked if the pockets were welt pockets. While I love pockets, I enjoy having the final decision to either add pockets or not.
For this day to night dress, I had just enough fabric for an above the knee dress that I know will be perfect for fun night out with friends.

The waist tie is slimmer than the pattern. I had just enough fabric to piece the waist tie together. For day wear, I’ll leave the waist tie at the front of the dress. For evenings, I’ll keep the waist tie at the back of the dress – trenchcoat style.
Don’t be afraid to sew a larger skirt size if you really want to waft into a venue when you use a gorgeous fabric that should be admired, just like this panel print.
Have fun making your version of the Poppy dress.
