I just wanted to make this dress up because I had the fabric; the lace remnant; and the test dress worked. What I was curious about was how this dress would work in a medium weight fabric instead of georgette print.
I found that as tedious as hand sewing can be I loved spending the time handsewing the lace onto the dress. This took 5 hours to do but there was no deadline to meet and I had no other commitments ie, the housework for the weekend was finished. I even managed to do some weeding and watered the garden. It looks like we’ll need some rain this summer.
I don’t have an occassion to wear this dress but as the handwork was going to take time I wanted to have this in the wardrobe ready to wear for a special event than do a late night rush job when an occasion does pop up. That’s my story and I’m sticking to it.
As Sylvia gave me what was left on the roll, I have enough of this gold fabric to make a formal trench coat…
And:
Thank you all for your lovely comments about the outfits I’ve been making too.
This is a lovely dress and I agree about having a special occasion dress standing by for when you need it. A trench in this fabric will be lovely. I bought a length of bronze sateen several years ago with a view to making an evening trench and I've never quite gotten around to it …

Oh wow! Very, very nice-love love the textured weft on this fabric, and the lace-it gives it a very luxe old-world look-reminds me of Victorian botanical illustrations and 'ladies past-times'. Very elegant. Add burgundy scarf maybe? To set off the rich tones in the lace when it's dark out…

This is a very nice combination of materials, good colour on you, and a great fit. I have ALWAYS made special occassion clothes for SPECIFIC occassions, but too often finished literally in the last minute. This looks like much more fun.

I love the dress. I also noticed and like the shorter length. Maybe you could wear it to our trench coat parade. But I absolutely refuse to let you make a spectacular, gorgeous, glamorous trench coat, and that's my story.

Wow, the lace is so special. I'm totally impressed you did it by hand (I would have given up & zigzagged after about 30 mins). It's really pretty & I hope a special occasion comes up soon for you to show it off!
