John Kaldor revisit

Today’s the day to step up my excitement.
Or tone it down if you’re not used to using a fabric that you really loved a few years ago.

From memory, I think I used New Look 6351 for the pants in 2018 to go with a top I was testing. I never did a review of them at the time but I’ve since worn them quite a bit.

What you’ll notice is the top and pants fabric looks the same. There’s no colour fad on this John Kaldor print.
The weight of this fabric also made it perfect for Style Arc Elani tunic top.

This is the 4th time I’ve sewn this pattern and it’s really easy to wear in hot humid conditions and your body won’t stop overheating.

The key change I made on the tunic was the length of the bodice. There’s no point shortening the length of the pattern because it has a hem facing. The hem facing is so good. It keeps the tunic top from flipping up at the hem.

What I would suggest is to cut the sleeve hem back to 6cm wide as it’s way too wide for the sleeve. I used the overlocker to cut the sleeve hem back for me.

The front pockets are really great and I always sew the pocket bag to the front bodice.

The neckline facing is really accurate and helpful in making that v neckline a true v shape.

The fabric is a medium weight sateen. I use the slight stretch in the fabric to sew in the front hem facing in correctly.

The fabric washes well. It needs very little ironing. Warning that you should iron this fabric on the wrong side so you don’t have shiny marks on the outside of the fabric.

A 3 thread seam overlock is all you need on this fabric and you’re good to ‘sew’.

This set could be my last coord set now. I think I’ve sewn enough of these sets that I’m becoming way too predictable.
