Creative Rush & Patternmaking Blocks

This week was the last of the 4 days at Patternmaking Essentials Course at Sydney Community College.

I had an absolute rush of creating block patterns.

The course states that you’ll create 3 block patterns as part of the full 4 day course.

On the website it does state, ‘Once your blocks are finalised, you’ll have the opportunity to explore additional patternmaking elements—such as pockets, waistbands or sleeves—or begin working on a personal design project with guidance from your tutor.’

I now have these block patterns
– bodice block with 2 types of sleeves and a two-part collar
– pencil skirt block with side pockets and 3 waistbands
– straight leg pants block with 3 waistbands, front patch pockets and side pockets
– bootcut leg pants block
– tapered leg 50’s pants block

Then I had a shirt/blouse style I’d seen in northern Europe last year and I made a draft bodice, soon to be tested. When I showed the picture to one of the guys in the class, he described the shirt/blouse as sophisticated.

The style I saw has dropped shoulders, no body darts and was long in length. In the shop I did try the shirt/blouse on and I look really bad in that style for many reasons.

Once I make the wearable toile, I’ll post it here.
