This is Friday Sews with a pattern making update – bodices.
The cover image shows you just a couple of makes for today’s video.
Today on YouTube, I’m wearing Liesl and Co Santa Rosa top I sewed in October 2022 as a pattern tester. This is a brilliant Summer time top

I’ll cover Day 2 at pattern making class, the piece I finished from the skirt pattern block, another studio clean up step , Sew Organised Style and SewOver50 news.
Let’s step back to Maria from Tuesday afternoon and the bodice class…
Pattern making class
Now that I’ve shown my class mates my skirt, here’s the 2 skirts I sewed using the pencil skirt block.
Remember there is no requirement to make a skirt or any garment that we draft during class. As a sewing tragic person, I couldn’t not sew a skirt from the block.

Both of these skirts are pencil skirts. They are both lined. I’ve used a fitted waistband on both. Both skirts have pockets in the side seams and I also added belt loops for tucked in styling and possible safari Summer styling. Nola gave me some feedback about the front skirt lining length that had dropped.

Last week I came unstuck when I sewed the suede version upside down. I cut all the skirt pieces with the nap running downwards. Suede looks either lighter or darker depending which way the nap runs. That’s what I saw once I sewed the two main skirt pieces together so I had to unpick the side seams and front darts before I could keep sewing the skirt.
Now I have a green basic skirt to pair with some green tops and a few basic coloured tops.
I also made an Ankara fabric set as well.
Do you get frustrated waiting for help when you’re in a sewing class? You want to know how I’ve done overcome that?
I take another project with me to keep me busy. Usually I take a garment I’ve been meaning to unpick for a while.
Studio clean up
This week I tried my hand at repositioning fabrics in containers after watching a Stash Hub instagram post. The concept is to line up your folded fabrics together on their edge so you can see everything that’s in the container.

This storage idea works really well for woven fabrics.
A few more bags of clothes and reading glasses were recycled this week. I figure the fabric stash clean up also leaked into cleaning up my wardrobe and bathroom as well.
Podcast editing
Next week on Sew Organised Style podcast is Ida Victoria.

Ida is from Norway and she started her sewing career when she won a contest to produce a sewing book.
I was in Norway last year and the weekend that I could have met Ida in real life, she was at Norway’s biggest fabric and craft shows.
The video version will be really vibrant, a true reflection of her design aesthetic.
Ida has agreed to provide 3 pdf prizes on the weekend for listeners and viewers. Make sure you subscribe to SewOrganisedStyle podcast.
SewOver50
This week I’m on the social media team managing the SewOver50 account. Remember that you can ask for any instagram tutorial you want so you can use Instagram better.
There are 2 SewOver50 posts I’ve published about Instagram and photos.

The first one is about portrait photo on Instagram rather than using square photos.

The second one is Thursday throwback post where Janene Ooobop’s Instagram created a guest post about eye catching photos. If you use one of Janene’s photo tips, that’s a big win for you and people that love seeing your sewing journey.
Next week
Trousers are next week’s pattern making class.

Next week I’ll also be showing you the fabric I’ll be using for my next Minerva Brand Ambassador project. The design ideas are on my pinterest board for the moment.
Join me again next week in my sewing studio.
Have a good week.
See you next time.
