Ombre alive

Designer Stitch published her Pia Vest this year.

This vest has three styles and caters for cup sizes A, B, C, D and DD(E). I’ve been wanting to make a blue version of this style since this pattern was published.

Love the asymmetrical vest style as well. That’s on my mind at the minute.

On the ombre cotton denim twill fabric I received from Minerva for a Minerva Brand Ambassador project, this Pia vest seemed like an easy step to working with ombre prints.

This is a Minerva Exclusive print and steel blue is my choice.

The limited fashion research showed two-piece ombre ensembles that placed the darker colour at the base of each piece.

The other way is to place the dark colour across you waist and hip areas.

Both colour placement options have their advantages.

It’s Summer here and a vest or any sleeveless top is ideal while we enjoy the heat and humidity for the next 5 months (at least).

This blue ombre pairs really well with dark denim. Well…this is Blue Steel right?

Here are some photos so you can see where I’ve placed the ombre on the front of the vest.

The back is all the dark blue print.

You can see the colour depth on the Mimiquin version. I have a lot of colour options available on the fabric I’ll be working on.

This fabric has been prewashed and ironed. It sews really well.

I’ve used a cotton fabric for the lining as well as some basic lining in ice blue. These were all stash fabrics.

I decided to sew a matching skirt with my Pia vest using this Ombre print.

This set does look really great now.

The Pia vest is a Designer Stitch pattern. I’ve already reviewed this for you.

The skirt is McCalls 8972. It has simple pockets below the waist yoke. I kept the darker blues for this piece so this set looks cohesive.

I really wanted this to be a stylish coord that has a bit of shape to it.

As you can also see is a hint of top stitching on the pockets.

Again I’ve reinforced the pockets with Vilene Vlieseline Bias Stay tape. I really love the stability this product gives pockets on tailored pieces.

As a sway back person, I did need to take more centre back seam on the skirt because it stuck out too far from my body.

Below is a sneak peek of the final bits of the fabric, as a dress.

There’s still some parts of this dress I’m finishing.
