The fastest jacket every made in the history of sewing.

Well I may have pushed myself to make this jacket from start to finish all in one day.
I had this fabric and pattern staring at me for the Summer months.
Now that it’s cold here, it was time.
It was time to sew a new tweed coating jacket.

Last time I sewed with this type of fabric I made a French style jacket over 2 weeks. Burda 5799 was my jacket pattern this time around.
What I love this this tweed coating is the colours in the weave.
I also love the softness this tweed coating has. It’s perfect for a soft jacket but this fabric provides some body to add structure.
Here’s what I did.
The under collar, the back facing as well as the back belt feature all have denim on the inside.
Denim is fairly robust so instead of sewing through multiple layers of this fabric, I chose to use a firm denim for those parts of the jacket.
The other thing I did was used a layer of firm iron on interfacing at the buttons and front fabric.
Iron on interfacing was also used across the back and front bodice shoulders.
The buttons are a dark red and are vintage so this jacket is certainly more cardigan than French couture jacket.

I love Burda’s finishing techniques for a great jacket in very little time. The lining and buttons were purchased from a fabric reseller in my suburb.
I paired this tweed coating with my black Designer Stitch Peyton jeans and the pinkish Designer Stitch Peyton jeans. Adding colour to winter with the pink Sew Over It London Edie tee.
Now I have a lovely jacket to wear both indoors and outdoors. It’s comfortable. This tweed coating moves with me so I feel very cozy and can move about easily
A lovely Win Win for Winter.
