My new Wren sets

Ann of Designer Stitch just keeps designing new patterns like the new Wren set that keeps me pattern testing.

This is the blue shorts set I sewed to check how Wren would work on me. This is my wearable toile and because it worked out, it’s a brilliant blue shorts set.

Fabric from The Sewing Basket but I know this print is a Spotlight print. The Mediterranean blue called to me for less than retail price too.

Ann gave us the option to also pair our Wren sets with her Raven Cami. I sewed a cami with bust shelf. Feeling very beachy in this cami and a wee bit daring too.

This print is a Spotlight Mediterranean print that made me feel full on J-Lo, with more clothes on than Jenny from the block.

Really, this multi colour print is the ‘white’ set I really love wearing.

This is just the Wren shirt and trousers.

I loved sewing with so much colour. I did wonder why the Eiffel Tower was included in this Mediterranean print but hey, I don’t design fabric prints.

The key modifications were making sure the shirt and pants were the right length for me. The shirt points are points but the testers are all taller than me so check out their makes to see how this set will suit you.

Love the cami and I promise to put that cleavage away.

My sewing tips are:

Find a drapey fabric that you want to swan about it. I mean really swan about in no matter where you are. Wren is the set that will make you believe you live an amazing life that you want to share with people.

Know your height and weight. I’m now officially 150cm tall. I’ve lost some height so sewing seams that can be resewn. I didn’t sew French seams on these versions and as much as I’d like to, basic open seams that are overlocked work like a dream.

Sewing tech notes:

I’m short so I took 2cm out of the sleeve length. This length was taken out 5cm above the sleeve hem.

On the back blouse, I took out 4 cm so the hem sat at my mid butt length at the back. This affected the side seams. They’re shorter than taller versions.

For the pants, I took out 6cm from the leg length at the knee.

I shortened the centre front seam by 4cm and zeroed it at the side seam.

The Raven cami is 4cm shorter at the high hip. I also lengthened the internal facing to create a bust shelf that works.

My plain colour wearing husband did a double take and loved both looks. I think he wanted a set of his own. Thanks Ann for this design.
