Linen Shirt Sewing for Skin Protection

Ross has to wear long sleeve shirts because of his has had lots of skin cancers. Wearing a long sleeve shirt is a layer of protection for him.

This is where I come in and start working with linen check fabric.

With my couture sewing brain on fire, I thought ‘I can do that’.

I picked up Vogue 7094 at The Sewing Basket. I traced off the 2 part collar from the shirt he had bought.

These are the 2 linen versions I sewed him in December using Vogue 7094 and the collar I traced off the ready to wear shirt.

We’ll be washing these linen shirts with fabric softener so they’re softer on his skin.

Lining up the checks was achievable once I could see the plaid repeat.

There are no top pockets sewn on either shirt.

Once I wash these shirts with fabric softener, I’ll grab some pics of him wearing these shirts.

What he did do was wear the 2 short sleeve shirts I made him 12 years ago using Simplicity 5581 because he likes them.

The shirt was roomy for him then and now it fits him well. I cut out size ‘medium’ so fingers crossed the 2025 version works.

The man still loves wearing cotton short sleeve shirts so who am I to tell him otherwise.

PS: He chose a fabric from my stash for the version I cut out for him today.
