Sewing patterns: My Go-To for Summer Tops

Do you have a pattern you love to make?

Butterick 5608 View D is my go to pattern when I have a bit of fabric left.

In this case, I had already cut out the dress I am currently working on with this Minerva Exclusive fabric.

But I really wanted to sew up a new Summer top to go with my blue linen trousers that I sewed using Simplicity 9376 a few months ago.

I’ve sewn Minerva’s Morrocaine crepe fabric before and I know this is a fabric that is fine to wear in the Summer. Honestly when the heat hits above 35C no fabric really helps you cool down.

On the website I liked the print. More specifically the colours used in this print are really bold and there’s a bit of blue in this print that I thought could pair with these linen trousers.

Once the fabric arrived in the post, the colours in this print are more strong than the website provides. I liked that a lot.

The other aspect of this print is there are so many bold plant shapes randomly placed on this print that I found placing the fabric with the pattern wasn’t a huge task to do. Sometimes print placement is a bit tricky. This print is so bold and random. This print is easy to try sewing an outfit with when you’re new to sewing.

What was really good about this fabric is that ironing it is easy as well. You don’t need to worry about the fibres melting if the iron is too hot.

Sewing the front pleating at the neckline was easy to do.

I used a microtextile sewing machine needle to sew this fabric. The needle point is really kind to the fabric.

There’s not much more I did to this pattern other than add an additional 5 cm to the sleeve hems for more softness in the sleeves.

As soon as I get the dress finished in this fabric, I’ll pop that onto here for you to see.

This is a lovely fabric for Summer or hot climates.

What’s your go-to Summer top pattern?
