Sewing the Milla Wrap Dress: Tips & Fit Adjustments

When I was able to test out Milla wrap dress I decided to use a wool twill fabric with a border print. This wrap dress has two sleeve options and since it’s cool weather here at the moment I decided to use the long sleeve with cuffs. I used the shortest skirt version because I’m short.

This fabric is a remnant that I bought last year. This is a wool twill with a border print so of course, I chose the cuff sleeve Milla version. I love detailing like cuffs and collars.

As with the patterns Ann develops, I love her sewing instructions the most.

What sewing tips can you share when sewing the Milla?

Always check your body measurements before you print out your pattern.

Try the winter version because the sleeve detailing is great.

What was your style choice for the Milla?

The shortest skirt with cuff sleeves.

What fit alterations did you have to make to the Milla?

Skirt – shortened the darts to 10cm long. I know where my curves start so I do this for all my dresses and trousers. Once I finished sewing the dress I raised the hem by 7cm because I am short.

Bodice – forward shoulder adjustment on the back yoke, front bodice pieces and sleeve curve. I raised the dart by 2cm and shortened the dart by 2.5cm. I took out 5cm from the bodice length below the bust dart.

Sleeve – I shortened the sleeve length by 4cm.

I want to try it again and use a buckle for the wrap part of the dress.
