Sewing What Ifs: Changes and Adjustments for Lois Dress Pattern

Here’s a close up of the neckline change I made for Tessuti’s Lois dress pattern. The piping worked really well for this print from Minerva.

This is one of my Minerva Brand Ambassador projects, so I didn’t pay for this fabric.

Let’s get back to Lois.

What ifs

As you know I sew each pattern about 3 times. There are so many ‘what ifs’ that go through my mind as I work on the first version.

For this version I kept thinking
Will I need to sew in a zipper?
Where does the zipper go?
Will I need to do a full bust adjustment?
How will the v-neckline changes work?
Will the sway back adjustment work?
Why is there no marking for hips and waist so I can shorten the skirt?
Is this the wrong pattern for my shape?

And the what ifs continue.

The skirt is about 6 cm shorter than the pattern and the bodice is loose. Loose is good for hot weather.

Next version changes

The next version will be size 12 and with an invisible zipper. I’ll take 20cm off the hem length for a shorter version. I’ll keep the sleeves higher than the pattern so you don’t get an eye full of my bra. I may lower the centre of the front skirt shaping that I raised. The point is really sharp and tricky to sew now. I think I’ve added plenty to the bodice to cover my cleavage on the next version.

I’m looking forward to trying the next one with simple stay stitching to keep the patterns the shapes as they were designed.
