Rita blouse in gauze

Who would have used double gauze for the Charmed Patterns Rita Blouse?

I did. I used double gauze from Minerva as part of my Minerva Brand Ambassador program. I get the fabric for free and agree to make something within a set time period.

During the week I aimed to sew a pair of cargoes using McCalls 5633 in gauze fabric. That’s it. That’s all I aimed to sewed. The green cargoes are all I intended to make. But then…
I had a bit of gauze fabric left and I thought to myself, ‘Hmm. I could quickly sew a top with this fabric as a sewing palette cleanser’. Why not try use Gertie’s Charmed Rita blouse now rather than wait until next week. So off I go and sew up the Rita blouse.

Now I didn’t plan ahead. I just jumped right in and sewed up the Rita blouse and got to the ‘insert side zip’ and then I thought, ‘O Oh. I need a zipper now’.
Quickly stash dived and grabbed a grey invisible zipper and off I sew this new Rita blouse. As is my practice now, I also added trim on the edge of the Rita blouse sleeve hem. For the techies amongst us, sew the hem trim at least 5cm from the sleeve hem. By the time you sew the sleeve hem and insert the elastic into the hem, it looks like your hem trim was sewn on by a professional tailor. How’s that for a tip to use later.

That was part of my sewing week.
