Denim lace top

This top took a lot of thinking outside the box for me.

I’m not a fan of lace but I have lace in my stash. Probably when I’ve felt like creating a movie inspired outfit, and then the crazy idea passes.

Simplicity 8909 is an unsuspecting Summer dress that is perfect as is but just as much fun when you play with the bodice length.

I’ve used this pattern last year for a few tops using Minerva exclusive prints and I keep wearing them all the time.

Earlier this week I look a huge jump with the remaining part of this woven slub look viscose fabric in denim blue colour.

This is the top version using the lace in rows, on edges and along seamlines.

I took sometime to place the lace where I felt it would look impressive. My first choice would have been a white lace but this cream colour lace worked out really well.

There were a bit of hand sewing for the snap at the back neckline.

If you are not a fan of buttons and buttonholes. If you find sewing in zippers tiresome, this top only needs one closure type of your choice.

I’ve tried the loop and button closure but it always opens during wear.

I’ve worn this top all day in the humid hot weather here and it is a breeze to wear.

If you have forward shoulders, raglan sleeves are easy to fit and quick to sew. No facings and no interfacings required.

The dress is ready to showcase next.

  1. I like the use of lace on your top. I’ve got a basket full I think I’ll experiment with! Thanks for the motivation and inspiration.
